Cynthia Barker writes…

I was amused by the story of former cabinet minister David Mellor, who has been ‘accosted’ by immigration officers on his way back into the UK and quizzed on how much money he was carrying.

Mellor was asked by officers he described as ‘jobs worth’s’ where he had been, what was the purpose of his trip and whether he was carrying more than one thousand pounds.

He was outraged that had he been ‘holding folding’ of over a grand sterling officers could insist on proof that the money was his.

Mellor, a former Home Office Minister described how he lost his temper during airport security checks.

“It’s not a communist state, we’re allowed to travel,” he told the Today programme.

My message to the ex-MP is this:

‘Welcome to the real world David!’

You can listen to Mr Mellor explaining his anger over the matter in an interview on BBC’s Today programme at: http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_8884000/8884178.stm

What an irony for this to happen to a home office minster. Maybe it should be compulsory that laws and regulations brought in must be applied on ex ministers so they can get a taste of what its like to be at the receiving end of unfair rules and behaviour.
