A happy Filipina student, who came to the UK on a student visa, successfully obtains a 5 year Tier 2 working visa, which includes her husband as her dependant.
With the help of her college she found an employer for her work placement as part of her NVQ course.
Like many other student visa holders working in the care industry, her employer liked her so much they decided to sponsor her as a care worker under Tier 2.
But under new rules to be introduced her employer would probably not have been able to sponsor her under Tier 2.
Care workers, along with chefs, are to be removed from the shortage occupations list from 2012, the Prime Minister recently announced when he said:
“No more care workers and chefs to be allowed in from outside the EU”.
The care industry, which relies heavily on overseas workers to take positions which they cannot fill locally, will be bady hit by the new restrictions.
