The UK Border Agency has announce that the ‘retired persons of independent means’ route will be closed from 27 November 2008, when Tier 2 of the Points based System kicks in.

The move was first announced on 14 July 2008 following public consultation. A formal statement announcing these changes was made by Phil Woolas, Minister of State for Borders and Immigration on 4 November.

For further information on these changes please see the consultation ‘The path to citizenship: next steps in reforming the immigration system‘ on the UKBA website.
