You could qualify for a tax refund if you are an overseas student, work permit holder, Tier 1, Yellow or Blue Card holder - in fact any visa type – even if you are no longer legal!

Wherever you are working in the world, whether on a work permit or student visa or even illegally, the bad news is you will have to pay tax.

The good news is that you may now be able to claim a lot of this money back!

Even non-studying Tier 4 students and UK visa overstayers, who are most likely still paying tax on their illegal earnings to the government, can qualify for a tax refund.

I was in UK 2004 TO 2006. I came back to India in August 2006 but I couldn’t go back to UK due to some family circumstances. I didn’t claim my tax refund for the year 2006 financial year. Can I claim my tax refund for the above said period now? If yes, then what would be the procedure and How much is your fees?

No, if you entitled to a tax refund and claim overpaid taxes back you are not breaking any rules. Claiming tax refunds has no bearing on your immigration status. If you have worked and had tax deducted, chances are you may have paid too much and could be entitled to legally claim a refund. See:

I worked in Foster Wheeler, Reading,Berkshire,UK from 2007 to 2009 and I paid tax of more than £15000.00 to UK government but when recession came I became unemployed for 3 years. After suffering for financial problems…I did not receive any benefits from UK or any tax refund for the huge amount collected from my salary.

You have to claim any over payment in tax, they don’t send it to you!
See http://www.majesticcollege.lnk.taxback.com/
You say you did not receive any ‘benefits’ from the UK, but what about the ‘benefits’ of living and working in this country? If you paid 15000 in tax you must have earned a fair bit? The system, transport, roads, lighting, councils, law, police, hospitals, GP’s etc are all paid for by tax-payers. Paying tax doesn’t mean you should automatically expect something in return. Did you pay to see a doctor whilst you were here, or to ride a massivley subsidised bus or train? Did you pay to use the roads and motorways?
Furthermore, engineering companies like Foster Wheeler get much of their business from tax-payer funded projects, so if we didn’t pay tax you would not have had a job.
Your attitude is totally selfish.

Hi, I am on Tier-4 Visa, i worked during my study and I am about to leave the UK in September so I believe I should be entitled for a tax refund for year 2012/2013.

I will stay in my job until I leave but based on my calculations I will still be below the taxed threshold.

What documents will be required from my side to apply?

How much do u normally charge, is it fixed or depends on amount of money to be refunded?

Thanks for your help
