Asylum seeker claims he was assaulted during deportation from UK

An asylum seeker has alleged that he was seriously assaulted by private security staff on a plane at Heathrow Airport during a deportation, the BBC reports today. Some people being held in detention strongly resist attempts by security staff to remove them by putting up a last minute fight before boarding a plane.

Bulgarians and Romanians should be denied benefits says MP

A British Member of Parliament (MP) says child benefit should be withheld from those who are not resident in the UK and there should be changes to tax credits for immigrants. The negative campaign will further upset the thousands of educated hardworking Romanians and Bulgarians who come to the UK to improve their lives by working legally with a yellow or blue card, not to claim benefits.

Elderly woman died after care agency closed by UKBA

A bedridden elderly pensioner was left at home without medication, food, or water for nine days after the UK Border Agency (UKBA) raided and closed down the agency which provided care. Four people were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and conspiracy to assist foreign nationals. A Filipino man and woman were arrested on suspicion of the same offences on 14 January at a separate address in south London.

UK ‘open for business’ for Chinese visitors, say UKBA

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) said the United Kingdom is ‘open’ for business and tourism and China is one of the UK’s priority markets.

British MPs vote for gay marriage

UK Members of Parliament (MP’s) tonight overwhelming endorsed historic legislation that will give gay couples the equal right to marry.
