I am reporting for Immigration Matters this week from a rainy Manila, where I will be speaking at two special job fairs, or Expos, both held at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Manila:
Nursing Expo on 30 July
The 2009 MOVE (Migration Overseas opportunities, Visas and Employment) Expo gives Filipinos a unique opportunity to visit exhibitors from the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK – all in one place.
76,000 take Nursing Board exam last week, but will they find work in the Philippines?
Last week 32,000 Filipino’s passed the nursing licensure or ‘board’ (PRC) exam, and join the ranks of some 300,000 unemployed qualified Nurses in the Philippines.
What chance have the people who join the list of licensed Nurses, which took up 36 full pages of the broadsheet Manila Bulletin, have of securing paid employment (to gain experience most will be forced to pay hospitals to ‘volunteer’ in order to gain professional experience) in their country.
Slightly more than the 44,000 who failed the exam at the same sitting, but it is an uphill struggle.
Little wonder why so many seek opportunities abroad to work or gain international qualification.
